SENZA CORPO
“Volar” was a composition by Toño, and “Una Luz” was by Miguel José. What followed was for Phelan Kelly to contribute the next song. During the final mix of “Una Luz”, Phelan was somewhat doubtful about which song of his would come next, since like his two colleagues, Phelan had an infinite number of compositions in the pipeline, some unpublished and others that he had already made public with his previous bands.
When the time came, Phelan decided to compose a totally new theme. In the words of Phelan: “It was the most recent song in my repertoire. I composed it in two hours while resting on my bed. Then I sent a voice message to the group chat singing the song and playing the guitar so it's recorded and I don't forget it”. That message was the first demo of his song, but it was not clearly perceived, because, while Phelan sang it, he made several pauses to mark indications on this or that chord, and this made everything very confusing. The first name that came to mind for the song was “Descarnado”, which he immediately dropped, as Phelan was looking for a less common name. Then he had two more options: “Badyless, and“ Senza Corpo ”. During a chat between the four of them, the name they liked the most was “Senza Corpo”.
So, the band decided to record a first demo of the song. For this, they went to MCA Studios on January 4, 2023 in order to have a cleaner draft. But what was going to be a short demo session ended up becoming an official recording day for the tune. Phelan was very clear about the song's arrangements, and he did not hesitate to record them directly on a digital drum set that Miguel Ángel Yance had programmed. With this, they already had several official final tracks, a referential voice that Phelan had also recorded, and the tempo of the song, the latter being essential so that Vitto can put the drums in Athens. After several percussion tests and some corrections made by Phelan, Vitto sent the final version of the drums.
The days of recording passed consecutively because almost everyone was on vacation, which meant that they did not have to wait for weekends to be available. After several hours in the studio, and with the privilege of having some advice from maestro Saúl Cornejo, on January 14 everything was flowing and sacramented, both recordings and mixing. Once again the combination of the three voices fit perfectly. Phelan provided the lead vocals, and Toño and Miguel José did the choirs. Also, Miguel Ángel Yance contributed a wonderful Hammond organ line with the synth. On January 15, the song was sent to Hitmakers Mastering for the mastering process. Gerardo Larrea was the author of the official cover of the tune, and on the 26th of the same month, "Senza Corpo" was released on all music platforms globally.
