GIRAN: Latest Release
"Giran", a song composed by Toño Valero in 2021, was born in the context of the pandemic that shook the world. This piece stands as the first single from La Rattio's future second album, marking a milestone in the band's artistic evolution.
The song seeks to capture and transmit the emotional vertigo and the disconcerting maelstrom experienced by a mind capable of listening to and understanding others from a deep and analytical perspective. The protagonist of this narrative could be a psychologist or a psychiatrist, whose experiences give him a vision of the world that transcends conventional perceptions.
Far from taking direct inspiration from some pre-existing band or style, Toño created “Giran” from a visceral sensitivity, allowing the piece to come to life in an organic and genuine way. The result is a direct, raw and strong rock, but impregnated with subtle echoes that refer to the roots of the genre, evoking the primal energy of its beginnings.
“Giran” not only represents a testament to Toño Valero’s compositional genius, but also symbolizes a sonic evolution for La Rattio. The band has been able to capitalize on its rock essence while exploring new nuances in its musical proposal, combining the rawness of its roots with an artistic maturity that enriches each beat.
The song is like a bridge between La Rattio’s past and future, uniting the indomitable spirit of classic rock with a contemporary narrative that reflects the emotional complexities of our time. “Giran” is not simply a song; it is a declaration of intentions, a turning point that strongly announces the path towards a more polished, visceral and bold sound in the band’s creative horizon.
“Giran” was recorded and mixed by Miguel Ángel Yance at MCA Studios of the Masters and brothers Saúl and Manuel Cornejo, in Lima, Peru. It was mastered by Francisco Holzmann of Holz Masters, in Santiago, Chile. And it was also recorded at Vitto Galiano's studio in Athens, Georgia, USA.
As for the lyric video released on the band's YouTube channel, Peruvian director Pablo Rondán undertook an ambitious exercise in poetic observation in an attempt to capture the multiple facets that define the identity of Montreal, Canada. In each frame, Pablo deploys a deeply patient and reflective gaze, which slides unhurriedly through the dynamic complexity of the city, as if each scene were a brushstroke on an ever-expanding canvas.
The video moves between the frenetic and the contemplative, oscillating between the bustle of the crowds and the introspective silence that invades the deserted streets at dawn. The images of the subway, for example, not only evoke the incessant cadence of public transport, but also capture collective anonymity, the lives that briefly intersect before continuing their course. Likewise, the protests vibrate like a collective heartbeat, an echo of voices that, in unison, seek to claim their place in a city that, although plural, is still unequal.
Pablo also focuses on moments of leisure, where fun emerges as an act of resistance against the whirlwind of urban life. However, he does not fail to portray solitude, that universal experience that takes on a particular resonance in the midst of the urban tumult, as if the immensity of the city amplified the emptiness of unfound connections.
In a visual and emotional crescendo, the video culminates with the serenity of a sunset that extends over the horizon. This final moment, loaded with symbolism, seems to suggest a reconciliation: between the individual and the city, between the whirlwind and the calm, between the chaotic present and the hope of a more harmonious tomorrow.
With a narrative that combines sociological observation with exquisite artistic sensibility, Pablo Rondán not only captures the essence of Montreal, but offers a visual essay on what it means to inhabit, resist and find beauty in the chaos inherent to contemporary urban life.
