ÉRAMOS
The band’s next song would be a contribution by Miguel José Flores. The tune that he had in mind, and whose composition began in 2018, did not yet have lyrics. It is at the beginning of March 2023 that Miguel José is encouraged to write about what he experienced during his adolescence in the city of Moquegua, Peru, and couples what was written to the melody that he already had a few years ago. Thus, on Saturday March 18, 2023, Miguel José went to MCA Studios to record the demo of his song. The recording engineer, as always, was Miguel Ángel Yance, and Phelan Kelly was also present, who made some video recordings of that moment. Miguel Ángel put together a drum sequence, and Miguel José recorded an acoustic guitar and also the vocals. The final result would serve as a reference for the other members of the band with their respective arrangements.
“Éramos Adolescentes” was the original title of the song, but when Miguel José presented it to his bandmates, he reduced it to just “Adolescentes”. During the video call the four had on March 19, Vitto suggested changing the name. For this, Miguel José told them about the longer original name, and Vitto said that it was better to keep the first part of said name, so the song was renamed “Éramos".
A little over a month later, on Wednesday April 26, Phelan, Toño and Miguel José met in person in the Unión Studios rehearsal room to practice and assemble the song's arrangements.
During all this time, Vitto and Miguel José were working on the drums. On May 19, Vitto sent a more consolidated version of it. And the next day, Saturday May 20, the first day of recording "Éramos" took place at MCA Studios, together with Miguel Ángel Yance as Recording Engineer, where Miguel José played a 12-string acoustic guitar, Phelan did the same with some wonderful electric guitar arrangements, and Toño Valero recorded a masterful bass that finished giving the song the personality it needed. On Thursday the 25th, Phelan finished the guitar arrangements, and on Friday the 26th Vitto sent an improved drum version.
On Saturday the 27th, Toño, Phelan and Miguel José recorded the vocals for the song. That day was a long and exhausting day. Miguel José provided the lead vocals, and Toño and Phelan did the choirs. Apart from the usual recording of the corresponding vocals, Miguel José wanted a choir of many voices, gospel type, for the end of the song. For this, Toño, Phelan and Miguel José had to make multiple recordings imposting their voices, making them appear as if they were sung by people with different voice timbres. It was so that each one did eight different takes, giving each of them a different nuance. The result was a 24-voice choir that closely simulated a real gospel choir.
On Wednesday, May 31, Vitto and Miguel José had the last meeting by video call for the final drumming of the song. And on Sunday, June 4, Vitto sent the final version. That same day, Miguel José recorded some keyboards (flutes and cello) at his house, and in the afternoon he met Phelan at MCA Studios for the first day of mixing “Éramos”. Toño could not be present due to health issues. That same day Miguel Ángel Yance, our Recording Engineer, recorded some beautiful piano passages that completed the song. On Saturday June 10, Phelan and Miguel José faced the 2nd day of mixing the song. Toño was absent for personal reasons. And Saturday, June 17, was the last day of mixing “Éramos”. Phelan and Miguel José took charge of the song and finished it in a 3 hour session. Toño had gotten sick again and couldn't go.
On Monday the 19th, “Eramos” was sent to Hitmakers Mastering to be mastered. That night Aldo Gilardi-Magnan and Miguel José talked by phone about some details of the song. In turn, Gerardo Larrea had already designed the cover of the song in the respective color.
On Sunday, June 25, the process for its distribution through Distrokid began, and on July 3, "Éramos" was formally launched on all platforms globally.
